A message from the founder of My Story
Several years ago, I started capturing my father’s story. He is now 83 years old, a World War II veteran and his story is extremely interesting. At the same time, I had accumulated almost 150 hours of video of my kids doing almost every conceivable first and yet, not one video was about me. That’s when I decided to look into a story-telling company. From my 20 years of experience making commercials and from the realization that most people were probably in the same fast-paced boat with never-enough-time to capture our story and the stories of our loved ones, I embarked on this storytelling journey. I joined several entrepreneurial friends in creating a company that would focus on “the stories” of everyday people. I believe that beyond any material possesions, “the story” is the single most valuable inheritance a person can leave his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Genealogy is a big thing nowadays and taking the time and the care to tell one’s story will help fill-in-the-blanks of who you were, how you were and what you stood for. My Story in a Nutshell
At My Story, we make video biographies of everyday people. We preserve those important moments of wisdom for generations to come. For forward-thinking individuals who have a need to leave a story with their material gifts we offer a videography experience called The Moving Picture Living Will. For couples celebrating a 50th anniversary, we can produce a wonderful presentation reflecting the journey the couple has traveled together. This service comes complete with the projector, screen and sound system that will make for a glorious celebration.
We make memorial movies for funerals where the actual living person shares about his or her life. This story-told movie becomes the focus, not just a collage of pictures without context and not just a coffin. With the powerful touch of My Story, what used to be a somber and sad occasion is transformed into a unique and uplifting tribute, a celebration of life. These biographies, or as some people call them, life documentaries also help families heal after the passing of a loved one. It serves both the storyteller and his or her loved ones to tie up loose ends.
At My Story we also make arrangements with our clients to release never-before-seen video of them comforting their family a year after they have moved on. Depending upon the amount of video captured, this can continue for several years into the future. We are also prepared to travel to important locations in a person’s life if it is the desire of the storyteller to include this feature. Every customer will bring a different story and although we have select packages from which to choose, we can craft a customized package that fits the needs of any storyteller.
